  1. As a teacher it is important to know what your school has to offer when it comes to dealing with bullying. Teachers should take it upon themselves to see if the school has any programs that are available on the subject and procedures to take when the teacher views an incident happening. I think first and foremost, as a teacher, one should be informed about the signs to look for. A teacher should also know what to do after confirming a bullying case and what to do when there is no case. The teacher should be prepared and organized, assessing the situation and how extreme the incident is. A teacher should have the knowledge of the schools resources that can help not only the victim but also the bully. The bully should be talked with and there should be someone who speaks with her/ him to find out the reason they are confronting another child.

I feel that it is very important to do this to prevent any future incidents. Classrooms especially should have anti bullying programs set in place and teachers should be well aware of the classroom dynamic as well as the student dynamic. To prevent bullying, one should be in tune with his/ her class and keep an ear open. I feel a teacher should be friendly and approachable, providing a sense of security and safety, for students to be able to confide information with. Furthermore, by implementing an accepting and bully free zone in the classroom, students will feel safer and it will set an example for good behavior. There should be clear written rules and consequences in the classroom and the students should know what is expected of them.

  2. I think there are two important things you need as a teacher when it comes to bullying. 1. Is awareness. Awareness just doesn't mean to be aware that a child is being bullied but also being aware of your school and how they handle bullying as well as being aware of te situations of all students. Being aware can help identify bullying before it goes to far and being aware school wise will help you to better implement a plan to combat bullying and help out both bully and victim. 2 is compassion. Compassion is also a key when dealing with bullying. You really need to be compassionate when it comes to dealing with such a sensitive topic like bullying. We need to be able to show empathy for both bully and victim and be able to mediate. I think that these are the most important skills and information for combatting bullying in schools.

    1. I completely agree, awareness is incredibly important when it comes to teaching. Knowing the students, what the school offers and environmental factors can really help prevent bullying and find the reasons behind particular cases.

  3. To prevent bullying in your classroom, I believe the teacher should start by making the classroom a safe environment. The class should do a lot of team building and ice breakers. By doing that, the teacher establishes common ground for all the students, hopefully that helps the students to know they should be there for each other. The teacher can also invite everyone in the class to be open and make remarks freely but appropriately about other students in the classroom.
The teacher should also incorporate technology in the classroom, to show students real instants of bullying. Students need to know that bullying is not okay, and he negative results that come with it. As Daniela mentioned, being aware of bullying acn help in preventing it.

    1. Creating a safe environment is incredibly important. I remember in one of my classes I took back in high school the teacher made it a rule that anything said in the class was not to be shared outside of the class. Students were not to bully other students about personal things discussed and were to show respect to each other, offering constructive criticism and positive feedback only. I think by setting up an environment where the children are forced to share and connect helps create a bond between them and a sense of understanding, possibly even respect. I think the method while it pushes limits can be very effective in building a safe classroom. I think something implemented such as that could be very beneficial in helping create a room with compassionate students who will in turn be respectful students.

  4. I think to be effective in preventing bullying in a classroom a teacher definitely needs student awareness. They need to be aware of all of the contact that happens within their classrooms, and even the contact outside of it. Teachers need to focus on making their classroom feel safe, and creating a sense of respect between all students. They should focus on making positive bonds between their students and making sure the students know that they can trust one another. A teacher should always be open to anyone in their classroom. They should be willing to give any student the time they want to talk to them about anything, whether it is a personal problem or not. If a teacher is an open ear for a student that may solve their problem and stop that student from taking it out on other people.
